Job Title:  Freight Coordinator (Customer) - Summer 2025 - Internship Opportunity

Job Description / Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Executive General Manager - Freight Services, the Freight Coordinator's internship position is to support the freight operations teams by way of monitoring the daily load activities through managing relationships with carriers, customers, suppliers, and vendors ensuring that goods are picked up and delivered on time. Receiving order requests at various stages and processing to complete the service offering.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Secure freight by calculating and quoting competitive rates to the customer.
  • Coordinate shipments through communication with the shipper, consignee, and dispatch to the carrier to facilitate a problem free transaction.
  • Facilitate freight movement through use of one-shot carrier negotiations and/or use of existing carrier rate contracts, skills related to using various freight matching web tools including Link Logistics.
  • Identify and recommend policies to maximize revenues and minimize operational costs.
  • Instrumental in team based strategic business planning, working with freight team and management to achieve business development goals.
  • Identify existing client growth, opportunity, and exposure for vertical integration.
  • Exposure to ocean and air import / export procedures.
  • Negotiate Rail intermodal, FTL, LTL, FCL, LCL, and AIR, buy rates with carriers.
  • Negotiate and Quote Rail intermodal, FTL, LTL, FCL, LCL, and AIR rates to the clients.
  • Monitoring a variety of shipments, ensuring they meet obligations of movement.
  • Retrieve appropriate carrier reference numbers for tracking and tracing.
  • Confirmation of charges on all applicable Rail, Road FTL, LTL, FCL, LCL, and AIR carrier shipments.
  • Order closure and hand-off to the accounting department.
  • Bill Clients according to pre-arranged rate structures or spot quotes for inbound, outbound, etc.
  • Investigate and process freight claims as required.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate completion of a variety of reports.
  • Involvement in updating and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to client service.
  • Additional duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Supply Chain / Logistics Students / International Business
  • Year 4 Student
  • Specific Transportation, Logistics, or other Freight – Supply chain education & knowledge is considered of great value.

Skills / Highlights

  •     Ability to work with deadlines and prioritize workload – basic project management skills are critical.
  •     Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Access) – above average skills required.
  •     Proficient in basic selling and negotiation skills
  •     Excellent verbal and written communications in English

Conditions:

  • An internship opportunity for (17 weeks - Summer 2025), for students in Logistics/Supply Chain Management/ Business/ or related field (preferably 4th year students).
  • A Work Integrated Learning agreement, signed by the student and their academic institution, confirming that the placement furthers their studies is a must to submit.
  • A proof of enrolment for the term that they are applying for is required.
  • A learning plan, written by the student and signed by them and the employer is required.
  • Able to start by May 2025, first week.
